Large-scale death of vegetation as a result of secondary salinity is a tragic and common sight in the Wheatbelt region of southwestern Australia. It occurs as a result of the clearing of deep-rooted woody vegetation for crop development and the resultant change in groundwater recharge. Eerie, desolate lansdcapes form as a result.
