The world's most venomous land snake (if you're a mammal), the Inland Taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) occurs in two disjunct populations in arid inland Australia. This snake was photographed near Coober Pedy, South Australia. Like many of Australia's most venomous snakes, this animal has a terrible reputation. But I got very close to this animal and it barely registered my presence.
